General Japanese – Beginner 初級日本語（しょきゅうにほんご）
3,000 yen / 50-minute lesson
In this course, you’ll learn the basics of conversational Japanese and gain the skills needed to carry out everyday tasks, such as shopping, chatting with friends, and booking trips. We’ll cover all the key areas of language learning, including speaking, listening, writing, and reading, with the goal of reaching CEFR A1/A2 level or JLPT N5/N4 level.
To complete the beginner course (A1), you’ll need approximately 30-40 lessons, and another 40-50 lessons to complete the upper beginner course (A2). You can choose your own textbook to study with and we’ll work with you to customize the course to fit your specific needs and goals.

A1: Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
A2: Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
